once again pretty pleased with the process of seeing it through. many opportunities to let it go/give up on the idea and investment. i can not separate or do not wish to separate myself from the support of Audrey in this.
100cmx100cm on stretched canvas
clay, indian ink and shellac based drawing ink
The element of surprise offered from using clay and the dynamic physicality of it’s processes of drying, caking, crusting, cracking, sticking and crumbling all contribute mysteriously to an ‘overall’ effect. The grid can be overlooked but this is a mistake because we really are looking at one hundred ‘pictures’ and are challenged by the repeating patterns/non patterns/forms/non forms/one and the many. This binary pulse shifts perception and ‘otherness’ comes into being.
The relationship between form and colours, linking, connecting up with other panels, shifts of ideas, over and over, square/squares neither up nor down, right nor left…..these devices both release and contain the experience and the moment, causing a disengagement, the slipping…..and the hatching adds value, lustre, intentionality and ultimately an ambiguous deepening potential……
